ALEX HOURSTON

After a career in advertising, Alex Hourston began to write, signing with Faber in 2014. In 2015 she was an Observer New Face of Fiction and her first novel, IN MY HOUSE, was a Guardian Book of the Year. Both IN MY HOUSE and her second book, LOVE AFTER LOVE, published 2018, were long-listed for The Guardian Not The Booker Prize, voted for by readers. She has published articles in media including The Telegraph and The Guardian, appeared at festivals and events and featured on BBC Radio 4’s Open Book. She is currently editing her third novel.

Alex has a BA and MA in English literature and has been a student of creative writing with the Faber Academy, Gold Dust and Arvon. Her teaching experience includes manuscript doctoring, mentoring emerging writers, running fiction workshops and judging a new fiction prize. 

Alex also mentors with The Girls Network, an organisation working with girls from less advantaged communities.

REBECCA WHITNEY

Following a degree in creative arts, Rebecca Whitney worked in the music industry before moving into TV and film production on music videos, commercials and documentaries. She later completed the Creative Writing Certificate at Sussex University. 

THE LIAR’S CHAIR was published by Mantle in 2015 and was chosen for the Loose Women book club. Her second psychological thriller, THE HIDDEN GIRLS, was released in 2020 and was longlisted for the Crime Writers’ Association Gold Dagger award. She is currently working on a third novel.​

Rebecca has taught for Guardian Masterclasses, the Creative Writing Programme and Brighton and Hove YMCA. She also works as an editor and mentors writers through a UK literary agency. As well as novels, Rebecca writes short stories, and her articles have appeared in The Independent, Psychologies and Buzzfeed amongst others. She has spoken at events nationwide including Bloody Scotland, CrimeFest and the Isle of Wight Literary Festival.
